What herbs to choose

You need to know the effect of plants on the body and choose certain types:

The grasses in the pillow quickly crumble, so to add volume, it is usually stuffed with straw, heather, sedge, fern, and some odorous plants are added. It also avoids an overdose of fragrances, which can lead to headaches or allergies.

To make it comfortable to lie down and sleep soundly, straw is used for the base of the pillow.

How to properly collect and dry plants

Dry herbs for filling pillows can be purchased at pharmacies or prepared yourself. There is a rule - collect all medicinal plants by hand. And definitely away from the city and highways.

Environmentally friendly places are chosen for harvesting herbs

The collection time depends on the type of medicinal raw material. Flowers for medicinal purposes are harvested when they are fully blooming, herbs - during flowering, rhizomes - in early spring or autumn.

It is necessary to dry them in a dry place at a temperature of no more than +30 degrees - this is the only way to preserve aromatic oils. It is best to spread the plants out on paper in the room, flipping them periodically. Or hang the stems up. The finished vegetable raw material becomes brittle and rustles when touched.

Herbs are dried in the shade, in a well-ventilated place

The dried aromatic plants are broken or cut into pieces of about 1 cm. Straw and other herbs used as the main filler of bulky pillows need not be crushed.

What should be the shape of the pillow

The herbal pillow comes in a variety of shapes and sizes. Doctors advise doing it in the form of a roller, which helps to relax the muscles of the neck and better fall asleep.

Roller pillow, as if massaging the neck muscles, relaxes them and speeds up falling asleep

You can sew a regular-sized scented pillow or make a small one and place it under a large pillow. It is more convenient to have several tiny pillows with different scents and use them to solve certain problems. The main thing is that the cover is made of natural and dense materials - linen, cotton.

Herbal pillows can be of any size, but must be made from breathable fabrics

After the night, it is better to put the herbal pillow in a plastic bag and tie it tightly - this way the essential oils evaporate less. Before use, to enhance the aroma, the pad must be shaken.

How to sew a pillow

Having picked up natural material and having decided on the shape of the pillow, they start sewing.

  1. Cut out a cover of a square or any other shape.

Cut 2 squares of the same size

  2. Then the edges are sewn together from the inside out, leaving a small gap, and turned out onto the front side.

Sew the fabric around the edges, leaving room for the grass to fill

  3. The cover is stuffed with herbs.

The cover is filled with plant materials

  4. The unsecured hole is overlaid and the cover is inserted into a removable pillowcase made of coarse calico or poplin, which can be changed for washing.

A beautiful and durable linen pillowcase not only protects the pillow from dirt and sweat, but also becomes a striking element of the bedroom decor

How long can you use a plant-filled pillow?

A scented pillow can be used for no more than a year, and if it is damp, it is better to throw it away. And try not to sleep on it all the time, so as not to exceed the norms of the action of aromatic oils on the human body. It is recommended to alternate: 2 weeks - sleep on a grass pillow, 2 weeks - on a regular one.

So that herbal pillows are only beneficial, it is not recommended to sleep on them all the time.

If, when using the herbal pillow, headaches, ailments, allergic reactions appear, you must refuse it.

Herbal pillows with a pleasant fragrance can be made by hand. Fresh herbs will not work - they will quickly deteriorate. For the filler, dry plants are used, be sure to take into account their beneficial properties and contraindications.

DIY decorative pillows: photo ideas for beautiful comfort and coziness

How to sew a pillow with your own hands? Every needlewoman thought about this. The pillow is needed not only for sleeping, with the help of it you can make the design of the apartment complete and original.

After watching photos of homemade pillows on the Internet, you might think that sewing requires experience and talent.

But after understanding the very process of creating a pillow, it turns out that it is not at all difficult.

Let's figure out how to make a pillow with your own hands?

Useful tips, simple patterns of toys

In the photo there are interesting do-it-yourself soft toys:

If you have to sew soft toys with your own hands for the first time, then you should prepare in advance both financially and morally, otherwise the process may be delayed. The material base consists in the preparation of the necessary materials and tools necessary for the work:

  • suitable material, pieces of colored fabrics, pieces of ribbons, lace, leather, etc.
  • threads of different colors
  • filler - synthetic winterizer, cotton wool, holofiber, etc.
  • special fittings in the form of eyes and nose, or matching buttons
  • auxiliary tools - needles, sharp scissors, pliers, awl, etc.
  • materials for patterns - paper, soap or chalk, meter, etc. to create a pattern, it is better to use thick cardboard than thin paper
  • iron
  • sewing machine or hands.

Morally, it is worth preparing for the fact that the first homemade soft toy may turn out to be not as luxurious and beautiful as in the picture or in the master class. But if you involve children in your handicraft experiments and entrust them with part of the work, then the final result will not be so important. At the same time, we do not forget about safety precautions: we give out sharp objects only at the appropriate age and under the supervision of adults.

The photo shows different patterns of toys for beginners:

You can start creating small - buy a ready-made master class in the store, where all the necessary materials and detailed instructions are offered in the kit. After making the first soft animal or doll, you can proceed to the "free" flight of imagination and independent work.

DIY pillow for expectant mothers: master class

Pregnancy rollers come in different lengths, shapes and sizes. All this influences the choice of the product. Today we will look at how to sew a large pillow for sleeping. Such a product supports the shape of the whole body, so you can take a comfortable posture.

Necessary materials:

  • 2 sheets of fabric, size 130x80
  • 6 strips of fabric measuring 8x101 cm
  • 2 strips of fabric measuring 2x63 cm
  • zipper size 60-61 cm
  • safety pins
  • sewing machine
  • filler.

Making a pattern:

  1. To sew a pillow for pregnant women with our own hands, we need a pattern.
  2. First of all, we cut out two large pieces of fabric and fold them together so that all the corners touch.
  3. Now we make all the necessary marks on the fabric using crayon or soap.
  4. Next, using a toe or by eye, round the edges of both parts.

  • As a result, we got 2 rectangles that will need to be folded in half.
  • From a separate paper we cut out the middle, shaped like a pear, and apply it to the fabric, stepping back 35 cm from above.
  • With chalk we mark the contours of the middle and carefully cut it out with tailor's scissors. You can use tape or safety pins to keep the fabric in place.
  • Additionally, we cut 6 long stripes and 2 slightly smaller stripes from fabric of a contrasting color.
  • As a result, we should get a similar pattern.
  • Seam stripes:

    1. Now we are going to grind down the details and stitch the pillow. To do this, first we sew two long stripes on the front side from the narrow edge.
    2. We do the same action with the rest of the strips. At the end we should have 3 separate long strips with open seams.
    3. Then we need to sew in a zipper. To do this, we apply it to the front side of one of the short strips of fabric and sew, stepping back 1 cm from the top.

  • Sew the second strip to the zipper in the same way.
  • Now we turn the zipper over to the front side and carefully smooth out all the seams so that in the end it does not stick out.
  • As a result, we should have 3 very long stripes and a sewn-in zipper.
  • Then we need to sew one long strip to each edge of the zipper. To do this, place the fabric with the wrong side up, about 1 cm away from the edge of the zipper, and secure with pins. We do the same action on the reverse side.
  • Then we sew the fabric to the zipper on both sides, turn it over and smooth the seams. It will look something like this.

  • Now trim off the excess zipper fabric so that it matches the width of the long stripes.
  • Assembling the pillow:

    1. Now lay the base fabric right side up on a flat surface and secure the strips along the outline with safety pins so that the zipper is at the top of the pillow.
    2. Then, in the same way, we attach the stripes in the center and sew everything together, stepping back from the edge by 2-3 mm.
    3. After we sewed the strips on the inside and outside of the pillow, there was a decent amount of excess fabric left at the junction. Carefully align both pieces and cut the strips at a 90 degree angle so that they are flush with the fittings. We sew as shown in the photo below. And do the same on the other side of the pillow.

  • Now we attach the second piece of fabric to the strips and connect it with safety pins along the edge.
  • Then we sew the second part to the stripes and turn the product onto the front side.
  • The maternity pillow is ready, all that remains is to fill it with filler.

What is so special about such a pillow for pregnant women? Of course, you can always use a regular pillow, but it will not provide the necessary support for the body and abdomen, and also will not allow the woman to feel comfortable during sleep and rest. In addition, when the baby is born, the pregnancy pillow can be used as an arm support when feeding, or to seat the baby inside while you do household chores.

    Pillow - cute girlfriend

Today on our sewing agenda is an owl pillow. This life-size pattern will allow you to make an original pillow that will become a full-fledged accessory for sleeping. Your baby will be delighted with such a neighbor on his crib. And in the daytime, the pillow will also become a full-fledged toy.

    Necessary materials:

    • cotton fabric
    • teak
    • pieces of colorful felt
    • crayon or bar of soap
    • a thread
    • needle
    • scissors
    • sewing machine
    • pattern
    • fabric glue
    • lightning
    • filler.

Step-by-step description of the creative process:

    • Let's take the pattern of our pillow and transfer it to the paper, choosing the appropriate size. Graph paper is ideal, but as a last resort, you can use a newspaper or a piece of unnecessary wallpaper.
    • Cut out a paper pattern.

    • First, we apply the pattern to the cotton fabric, fix the edges of the paper with needles.
    • We circle the pattern with chalk or soap. Leave about 10-15 mm for allowances.
    • Cut out a pattern on the fabric.
    • Similarly, transfer the pattern to the tick and cut it out.

    • Cut out two identical circles from felt fabric. These will be the eyes of an owl.
    • Cut out the nose in the form of a triangle with rounded corners.
    • We attach the eyes and nose to the front of the pillow and sweep it away.
    • We fix these parts with a zigzag machine seam.

    • From suede fabric or felt of a contrasting color, we will cut out such a funny wave. These will be cilia. We glue them with fabric glue to the edges of the owl's eye.

    • If desired, these elements can also be stitched, but it will be difficult to do this due to the miniature size of the parts.
    • Now let's take two pieces of cotton pillow.
    • Tuck the bottom edge where the zipper will be attached.
    • First, we will sew a basting stitch, and then a machine seam.

    • Sew on one part of the zipper.
    • The fold made on cotton fabric should completely overlap the base of the zipper to the very teeth.
    • First we sketch, then we sew.

    • Sew the second part of the pillow in the same way, observing the symmetry. This is how we should get it.

    • We turn the pillow cover to the wrong side and align the edges.
    • It turns out that our fabric is facing each other. Now we need to go over the edge with a overcasting seam and then machine stitch.

    • To keep all seams neat, the remaining allowances can be overlocked.
    • Pay particular attention to the seam areas of the cover near the zipper. Do everything carefully without damaging the mechanism.
    • Our cover is ready. You can turn it to the front side and see the result of the work done.

    • We will make patterns for the legs on paper.
    • Now let's transfer them to the fabric. The details will be paired. In total, four of them need to be cut.
    • Also, do not forget about the seam allowances. 5-10 mm will be sufficient.

    • We fold the pairs of parts of the paws to each other with the front side.
    • First we outline, and then we process with machine stitching.
    • Feet can be left flat or filled with filler. In this case, we will leave a small hole on one side, and after filling it, we will sew it with a manual blind stitch.
    • We put the paws on the front side of the pillow and, on top of the zipper, first fix them with pins or needles.

    • Sew on the legs to the main body of our pillow.
    • For now, put the finished product aside and take care of the pillowcase.
    • We fold two blanks, cut from teak, right side to each other.
    • We carry out basting and machine stitching.
    • Remember to remove all basting seams.
    • At the bottom, we leave a small hole for the introduction of the filler.
    • We turn the napert out onto the front side.

    • We fill the pillow case with padding polyester, silicone or holofiber.
    • Sew the hole in the napkin by hand with a blind stitch.

    • On top of the made pillow we put on an owl-shaped pillowcase and fasten the zipper.
    • Let's straighten the corners and shape our pillow.
    • You can tie or sew a small bow on the ear.

    Do-it-yourself fragrances from essential oils

A fragrance is a must in any home. It not only removes all unpleasant odors and fills the house with coziness, but also helps to improve health or to survive life's difficulties. A natural fragrance made from essential oils is quite easy to make with your own hands, without much effort and without spending a lot of money. There are many options for making it.

    Choice of essential oils

Before you start making a fragrance from essential oils, you need to choose the right fragrances, focusing on what effect you want to achieve in the end. So, the most popular are the following oils.

And you can find out more about essential oils in a special section of our website.

    • Ylang-ylang. It helps people with a weak mentality to get through the piled up difficulties, relieves stress and fatigue, relaxes muscles and gives rest to the brain. Besides, ylang-ylang is the most powerful aphrodisiac for women.
    • Verbena. “Charges with positive” - so say those who have already tried this oil. Helps to give concert attention to certain things, relieves headaches and drowning.
    • Lemon. For the human body, it does not bring an obvious effect, but it is indispensable in the summer, as it scares off mosquitoes, flies and other annoying insects with its smell.
    • Patchouli. Gives a good boost of vivacity and improves tone. Especially useful for prolonged mental stress.
    • Cinnamon. Helps to cope with sadness and grief, it is easy to endure difficult moments of life or to get distracted from piled up problems, relieves fatigue. It is especially necessary in rooms with unpleasant odors, since it is well drowned out by the aroma of fresh pie.
    • Fir. Perhaps the most useful oil of all listed here. It destroys many types of bacteria, perfectly removes bad odors, increases resistance to stress and fatigue, improves immunity and helps to cope with anxiety. Fir oil also repels insects. We can say that this oil is a strong aphrodisiac for women, although it is still inferior to ylang-ylang.

    Selection of compositions

For each room, it is required to select certain aromatic oils, which, complementing each other, will bring maximum benefit. The number of drops is indicated for 5 sq. meters of the room.

    • Eucalyptus (1 c.)
    • Geranium (2 k.)
