THE AGRONOMIST ANSWERS ON HOW TO GROW AND CARE FOR PLANTS
I HAVE CURED A COCHINELET ATTACK NOW WHAT SYSTEMIC PRODUCT CAN I USE?
QUESTION FROM MARCO
Hello, I read your answer to the question that was asked (MY FICUS BENJAMINA IS LEFT WITH VERY FEW LEAVES THAT STILL FALL GREEN)
Thank you because you have helped me a lot too. I am in the same condition (but my ficus has a lot of leaves) and I cleaned all the leaves with alcohol by removing the waxy shields.
I bought an oil-based spray product specifically for mealybugs, but I would like to know what I can use systemically, as I cannot be sure that I have removed all the mealybugs.
Thanks again really!
you have taken the very important first step in healing your own Ficus. Now, you ask me for a product that circulates in the plant and "fights" the scale insects "from the inside".
As you will have read here and there, since you follow my column, I am generally reluctant, for houseplants, to give such indications for obvious reasons of toxicity of many products towards humans considering that they must be administered in plants located inside an apartment.
In any case, if you read theitem of mealybugs and read the indications given in the case of "serious infestations in gardens and in the open field" you will find indications of some products suitable for the purpose.
Keep in mind that the oil-based spray product you administered (you don't tell me the active ingredient) in any case is already a powerful insecticide so I strongly advise against doing other treatments for the time being. Also keep in mind that you must not abuse with mineral oils as they should only be used when insects appear and not as "preventives".
Another piece of advice that I give you, if you have not already done so, is to fertilize the plant of Ficus to "make it recover" and "return to strength".
You will forgive a little digression but I love to repeat: plants are in effect living beings and must be considered as such. If you have a cold that you cure at the beginning with the classic cocktail based on hot milk, rum and honey, and you already have excellent results; however, to be on the safe side, you decide to take aspirin as well and at that point you feel great. But, not happy, you decide to also take antibiotics because "you never know" ... what the heck ... your body if it could give a "punch on the nose ... or not?".
See you soon.
