Tatyana Boeva, kamchatka.aif.ru: What are the most popular and productive potato varieties in Kamchatka?
Galina Vlasenko: They are divided by early maturity into 6 groups. In our conditions, only early, mid-early and rarely mid-season varieties are grown. There are several conditions for the successful cultivation of "second bread". First, it is better to take varietal seed potatoes. The second, most important, condition is the obligatory germination of tubers. And the third is preparing the soil for planting, namely fertilization.
For an early harvest, the Dutch varieties Red Scarlett, Impala, Fresco, Latona and Russian - Luck are good. These potatoes are for summer consumption, they can be stored at most until the New Year. Taste qualities of tubers of early varieties are not bad, but the starch content is low.
For winter consumption, one of the best, in my opinion, is the Raya variety, also Dutch. He has high taste - 5 points, starch content - 14.5%. And a beautiful presentation: red tubers of a round-oval shape, with yellow flesh. There is the Romano variety - it is similar to Raya, but the starch content is slightly lower and is less resistant to potato nematode. Sante is also not bad - with yellow round-oval tubers and a starch content of 12-13%.
Of the varieties of Kamchatka selection, the early maturing Geyser is good, it is quite resistant to nematodes, with a starch content of 12-13%. He has red, elongated-oval tubers, well stored, can be laid for the winter. For example, 2015 was a very cold year, however, this particular variety gave the best harvest.
Vulcan variety, also local, medium early, with a starch content of 13-14%, yellow tubers, very tasty. It is good for winter storage.
In the mid-season group there is also our Kamchatka variety - very tasty, crumbly, with a starch content of up to 15%. Tubers are small, yellow, beautiful, round-oval. But it needs to be germinated very well and planted in fertilized soil.
Three subgroups can be distinguished here:
Among the mid-early varieties of potatoes, the leading ones are Nevsky, Elizabeth, Ryabinushka. Among mid-season varieties in the first position Aurora, followed by Scarb, Petersburg, Lugovskoy.
Tomato is a recently bred plant. It is very unusual and few people have heard of it. It appeared thanks to the joint work of British and New Zealand specialists in the field of breeding. The purpose of creating this hybrid was to ensure the most efficient use of the planting area. It entered the mass market in 2013. Suitable for growing throughout Russia. Harvested tomatoes and potatoes can be used for culinary purposes without any restrictions.
