Fiorology - All the secrets of plants and flowers is a manual of plant cultivation that surprised me very much. The reasons for this surprise are different and linked both to the richness of the contents and to the simplicity of the descriptions. In fact, the author has succeeded in the not easy task of explaining complex and articulated concepts with "everyday words".
The peculiarity of the book is that in addition to being a manual on plants, with more than one hundred cultivation data sheets, it is also a book that finally makes it clear to the "non-experts" why plants are so important for life on earth. In fact, the first part of the book "Knowing plants, how they live and how they are made" illustrates how they live and why they are important for humans and all animal life in general through the explanation of chlorophyll photosynthesis, respiration and transpiration of plants , the three functions defined "of life and for life". Then illustrating how these functions are carried out by the different parts of the plant: leaves, stem, roots, flowers, fruits and seeds.
The author then tells us in the chapter "What plants need" to live at their best, the quantity and quality of light they need: the optimal temperature; how much and what water they need and why fertilizations are so important, also illustrating the different techniques of repotting, pruning and topping.
A large chapter is dedicated to the "Multiplication of plants" describing in detail the different multiplication techniques: by seed, pertalea, by layering, by offshoot and by division of the plant.
In the chapter "Most frequent diseases of plants" it is highlighted that what can disturb normal vegetation as a result of both bad cultivation techniques and parasitic agents, animals or plants, illustrating how to prevent and / or treat the various diseases.
A delightful chapter entitled "Small care and attention towards plants" is dedicated to those small precautions that must be adopted to keep the plants at their best: how to clean the leaves; how to water them when going on vacation; how and whether to use foliar polishes; how to arrange the plants in the house with respect to light and radiators
The last chapter «Cultivation sheets» includes 107 technical sheets of cultivation of the main indoor, garden and terrace plants, of which I carry a standard sheet, as it is better worth more than any speech.
What about at the end of the book? I'm sorry it's finished! I was truly surprised at the excellent work done. In fact, I believe that in addition to being an excellent support for all of us for the care of our plants, providing us with useful tips and precise indications on how to cultivate them to the best of their potential, this book is also a way to get closer to a world, often unknown and too often taken for granted. , the vegetable one, teaching us to understand that: "Plants are the beating heart that our planet and animals and man live only thanks to them and the latter, unfortunately, too often forgets it when it destroys the forests and the environment in which they live . It is really true what the great German poet Schiller said "against human stupidity not even gods are able to fight successfully".
I congratulate the author for the excellent work she has done. Brava.
