Meatlider method for growing a high yield of potatoes

On summer cottages and household plots, less and less space is allocated for the beds, and more and more space is freed up for relaxation (gazebos, mini-pools, barbecue, etc.). Because of this, many summer residents and gardeners have to puzzle over how to grow tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, peppers on the remaining hundred square meters, and even plant potatoes.

Method advantages

With small areas of plots, you want to achieve a particularly high yield. Therefore, it becomes more and more popular Meatlider method - potatoes from 150 sq.m. according to this method, it yields a yield of up to 700 kg, which is quite enough to provide a family of 4 with supplies for the whole winter.

The Meatlider method is not only suitable for open ground, but also successfully used in greenhouses, greenhouses and even in boxes on the windowsill or on the balcony. Narrow beds, cleanliness, neatness and neatness are the main differences of this common method. And most importantly, in the beds there is a continuous process of vegetables ripening: seedlings rise in one bed, fruit ovaries form in the second, harvest takes place in the third, and in the fourth, the plants are harvested and the soil is prepared for the next batch of seeds.

The Meatlider method is not only suitable for open ground, but also successfully used in greenhouses

Advantages of the Meatlider method:

  • from one narrow bed over the summer, you can harvest different vegetables several times;
  • plants give amicable shoots and ripen almost simultaneously;
  • narrow beds provide higher yields than regular beds and take up less space.

Narrow beds on one hundred square meters will occupy only a third of the area, and the harvest will give 10-15% morethan on a weave sown in the usual way. Consequently, you will not only get 15% more vegetables, but you will also need to cultivate a third less land. A high yield is ensured by regular irrigation, balanced feeding and good light provided by narrow rows with wide aisles.

How to plant potatoes according to Meathlider

The potato planting area should be flat and well lit during the day. Dig up the ground thoroughly, freeing it of weeds and rhizomes so that not a single root is hidden from your eyes. Now you can start marking by driving in pegs about 40 cm high in the four corners of the beds and pulling ropes between the pegs.

Standard narrow ridges have width 0.45 m and length 9 m, between the ridges there are wide passages of one meter. If the site is too small, a passage of 0.6 m will be enough - do not make less, otherwise the potato bushes will create a shadow for each other, and it will be inconvenient to take care of them. If there is a slope in the garden, it is recommended to make the ridges in several levels so that they are horizontal. This will ensure more efficient watering and maintenance of the plants and will give the best results. If the slope is too steep, boxes-ridges with a depth of 20 cm should be made and filled with artificially prepared soil mixture (sawdust, perlite, sphagnum moss, sand, pine bark - two or three of the listed components, without using land).

Standard narrow ridges are 0.45 m wide and 9 m long, with one meter wide passages left between the ridges

After marking, dig up the beds (do not touch the row-spacing), at the same time adding pre-sowing fertilizer to the soil, and make bumpers out of the ground 10 cm high. The bumpers will make it easier for you to water the beds, help save water and fight weeds. A flat surface of at least 30 cm in width should remain between the sides in the beds. Mark two rows of holes on the surface in a checkerboard pattern with a distance of about 30 cm between holes in a row and a hole depth of 8-10 cm. Add 1 tablespoon to each hole. vermicompost, put potatoes on top and level the hole.

Success depends on proper care

Planting potatoes according to Meathlider means careful maintenance of the ridges with top dressing, watering and weed control. You will need to ensure that the soil under the potatoes does not dry out, and that each plant gets the same amount of water and feeding. Top dressing should be applied first, as soon as the shoots sprout, then - when the shoots grow up to 15 cm, the last time - before the budding of the potatoes. It is not necessary to huddle the bushes.

By choosing to grow potatoes using the Meatlider method, you will ensure yourself a guaranteed yield, because it is a win-win method that combines the best methods of hydroponics (growing without soil) and vegetable growing on natural soil. The narrow ridges provide plants with optimal access to the nutrients in the soil and allow the economical use of water. On any type of soil, by choosing any variety of potatoes, you can achieve high yields with a minimum of financial costs.

When choosing the optimal timing for planting potatoes, it is very important to maintain a balance. If the event is carried out too early, return spring frosts may return and destroy the potatoes, and the cold earth can provoke rhizoctoniasis (a fungal disease in which black growths form on the tubers). And with too late planting, you can get a harvest in a smaller volume, because due to the end of the warm season, it will not have time to ripen in full.

When is it better to plant a crop outdoors in 2021, in what month? First of all, when choosing the time for the procedure, you need to focus on the weather and temperature conditions. The threat of return spring frosts should pass, the soil should warm up to 8-10 degrees Celsius, and the air temperature during the day should be stable at 15-20 (and more) degrees Celsius.

Advice! If you are in doubt and think that recurrent frosts can return in the spring, then it is better to postpone the procedure a little.

In different regions of our vast country, the weather and climatic conditions are very different. And this means that you need to plant potatoes at different times, taking into account climatic features:

  • In the middle lane (Moscow region) - planting is optimal in the second half of May.
  • In the South (Krasnodar Territory (Kuban), North Caucasus) - early in mid-April.
  • In Siberia, the Urals, the Leningrad region - it is better to plant at the end of May or even at the beginning of June.

By the way! If you are interested in early planting in the spring, then you can perform the procedure earlier for one or two weeks of the optimal time, and then install arcs and cover with a film.

A very good assistant in gardening affairs is the cycles of the moon, with their help you can determine the most accurate time when you can and cannot plant anything in the garden. In this way, dates for planting potatoes in open ground according to the lunar calendar 2021:

  • Auspicious days:
    • in March: 5, 7, 10, 15
    • in April: 1, 19, 22, 23, 24, 27, 28, 29, 30
    • in May: 16, 17
    • in June: 14, 15, 16, 17.
  • Unfavorable days:
    • in March: 12, 28
    • in April: 11, 26
    • in May: 11, 26
    • in June: 10, 24.

Folk trick! Some experienced gardeners have adopted the experience of their ancestors and, when choosing dates, are guided by folk signs. It is believed that potatoes can be planted when:

  • birch leaves will be the size of a 1 kopeck coin
  • dandelion has faded
  • the flowering of the bird cherry is over.

My method of growing potatoes

It has been four days since it has not rained in our village. My soul became more cheerful, my mood improved, and I decided to take hold of the handle. Yes, the weather in May did not please us. During my not short life (I'm already 77 years old) I don't remember such a May. There is nothing to be done, this is such a "gift of nature." There is no need to despair, you need to come to terms with this situation. Before planting something, you need to think carefully about in which direction to make the grooves. I plant potatoes so that the rows are inclined, then the water will not linger in the aisles.

If this is not possible, then we plant the potatoes using the ridge method. Immediately, as soon as the potatoes are placed in the grooves, we rake a ridge 20 cm high. Here we have two benefits. The first - a twenty-centimeter soil layer slows down the emergence of seedlings and a strong root system will form, and this is the key to a high yield. If we have seedlings appeared in 7-10 days, the root system did not have time to form, there will be a shortage of harvest. Secondly, when a high ridge is formed, the ditch will be lower than the planted potatoes, and the water will be in the groove.

The earth loves to be fed. The main three components that the earth loves are nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. In mid-August, I sow siderat - white mustard - 400 g per 1 hundred square meters. To save seeds and sow it evenly, I take a one and a half liter bottle, turn it upside down, take a 50 mm nail, make 10 holes on hard protrusions.

I pour 500 g of mustard and walk through the garden, shaking it lightly. After the first frost, I mow. So she hibernates. In the spring I go through the mill, and I have enough nitrogen fertilizer. On 8 acres in the spring I scatter 10-12 buckets of ash. If you don't have a lot of ash, then sow in the grooves before planting. Ash contains phosphorus and a lot of potassium, which potatoes need.

This is how we feed our land before planting. During the growing season, this is not enough for her. After germination, I do root dressing. I fill the chicken droppings with water, wander for several days, bring it to the form of sour cream, add 10 liters of water to 1 liter of mass. I use approximately 10 liters of solution per 4 meters of the garden bed and rake the comb a second time. After 15-20 days I do another top dressing.

Any weed can be used. I mainly take nettles and celandine, cut it into 4-5 cm long, fill up 1/3 of the barrel, fill it with water to the end. It wanders for 12-14 days, I see that the mass settles to the bottom, then the solution can already be used. I also take 1 liter of solution for 10 liters of water. After such procedures, your landowner will say thank you to the good owner and will thank you with a good harvest.

Then we come to diseases, because of which we cannot rest. The worst disease is late blight. The fact is that if we have already seen it, it will be too late to fight it. No need to wait for the rains to fall. If buds are forming on the bushes - spray on the shoulders and let's go to work!

Do 2-3 such treatments. There are plenty of biological products in the OZ Club (Fitodoctor, Fitosporin ...).

The Colorado potato beetle is not so scary, we saw - we spray it right away. One of the best drugs for the Colorado potato beetle is Aktofit, which I have been using for 8 years. I carry out 2-3 treatments in 7-10 days. Actofit can be used to process fruit trees, black and red currant bushes. At present, the fruits of apples, pears, and apricots have already been formed. They can also be processed with Aktofit. It is a useful and valuable drug.

There is another big potato pest. This is a bear, which is very difficult to remove. I use this method: I take half-liter glass jars to keep them clean and dry. I pour 50-60 g of beer into each can. I tie the neck with gauze. I gouge a hole in the aisles, put the jar at an angle of 45 degrees, fill it with earth so that the neck is 3-4 cm from the surface of the earth. I mark the places where I put the cans with beacons - sticks 1 meter high, and after 4-5 days I take them out. It happens that in one bank there are several "drunks", of course, lifeless.

Planting potatoes in the Mittlider beds

I carry out the first hilling when the height of the sprouts is 12-15 cm. Between the sprouts for feeding, I lightly scatter mineral fertilizer for potatoes.

I slightly huddle two rows at once so that part of the soil from the row spacing remains for the second hilling (Fig. B). The second hilling is carried out before closing the tops. The height of the bushes is 20-30 cm. I sprinkle immediately after rain or good watering.

To make it easier, I drag the catmen between the rows. It remains only to rake the loosened soil with a hoe to the bushes so that high furrows are formed. I irrigate along the furrows. I try to avoid crust formation in them.

Again I drag the ketmen along the sides of the rows with 5-tooth rakes. Before harvesting, I cut off the tops in about 10 days. Digging with flat garden pitchforks. I separate the bulk of the tubers from the tops, then the tubers remaining in the ground, as it were, "shake" through the teeth of the pitchfork.

After such cleaning, there is no need to dig up the ground before winter. I level the garden with a rake and immediately sow mustard. During harvesting, if the weather is fine, I sort the tubers, spreading them along the aisles. Here they are better ventilated and dry.

The flaws are immediately visible. I select tubers for seeds from healthy and productive bushes. I leave the seed material at the dacha for landscaping until the end of September.

How to prepare tubers for planting is a special conversation.

Arsenal of a vegetable grower

I can only name some of my favorite potato varieties. They have time to ripen in the Vladimir region, are fruitful and, most importantly, are tasty. For a long time, I have tried about 70 varieties.

How to grow potatoes in crates

To do this, use wooden boxes filled with earth. As the potato tops grow, it is sprinkled with soil. Next, the next box is installed, and the bush already grows in it. The method makes it possible to develop stolons, on which tubers are formed. The longer the stolons, the more tubers are formed.

The method has both disadvantages and advantages.

Positive sides:

  • Saving the landing area.
  • High yield.
  • Ecological purity of culture.
  • No hilling and weeding necessary.
  • Easy to harvest, just remove the boxes.
  • The Colorado potato beetle does not attack, since the potatoes are covered with earth.

Among the shortcomings, it should be noted:

  • Physical and material costs for boxes.
  • Preparation of nutrient soil for filling them.
  • The need to monitor the moisture content of the soil, to prevent excess moisture.

In general, this method has a right to exist and it has many adherents.

We split the garden according to the Meatlider method

Meatlider method

Modern cultivation of garden crops and land cultivation is increasingly taking place with the use of the latest technical achievements, botany and chemistry. Many are wary of the use of chemical developments, fearing to worsen the quality indicators of the crop and increase the level of nitrates... But such a compromise as the methods of organic vegetable growing with a closed cycle, in which even mineral fertilizers are not used, have already gained a lot of fans among summer residents.

Narrow beds according to the Meatlider method

In addition to organic vegetable growing, modern gardeners also resort to the Meatlider method to increase yields. This method is based on the judicious use of mineral fertilizers, which are necessary, in combination with the organization of conditions for the natural processing of these fertilizers. Plants grown according to the Meatlider method are stronger, tastier and more juicy, and the content of nitrates in them is an order of magnitude lower than the norms allow.

What is the Meatlider Method and what is it based on?

Dr. J. Meatlider is a scientist who has practiced growing plants for more than 20 years in order to increase yields, for increased commercial benefits. Meatlider was engaged in the cultivation of not only vegetables, but also flowers. The scientist patented 11 of his developments. His developments include not only cultivation methods, but also methods of packaging and delivering plants alive over long distances. This scientist has traveled all over the world studying nutritional problems. He also visited Russia, back in the days of the USSR, which led him to the idea that the cultivation methods and technologies that he developed could be used in our climate.

One of the popular methods that Meatlider has developed is the gardening method.

This growing method can be applied to a variety of crops. It is simple enough that no tools are needed to use it. According to the Meatlider method, vegetables can be grown both in the garden and in the greenhouse. The main distinguishing feature of the beds, which are made according to the scientist's method, is that they are narrow:

In general, growing vegetables according to the Meatlider method is based on the principles:

1. Mandatory restriction of the territory for plant nutrition, which is achieved through narrow beds - 0.5 by 9 m.

2. Forced feeding with mineral fertilizers.

3. Use of seedlings.

4. The use of an artificial substrate.

By dividing the garden into narrow beds, you can achieve the necessary optimization of the space and its correct use. Acting according to this method, you need to find a place and break narrow beds on it.

When planning to set up a garden using the Meatlider method, it is necessary to take into account the following factors:

  • Illumination of the beds with sunlight - from the very morning and at least until 18-00 if your garden is located so that this is impossible, then - from noon until the end of the day.
  • It is advisable to set up narrow beds next to the water source.
  • It is advisable to choose light, medium or loamy soil for the beds.
  • To create beds according to the Meatlider method, you need to mark the garden with pegs on narrow beds 45 cm wide and 9 m long. If the garden is shorter than 9 m, then you can choose any length. The beds should be at a distance of 90 cm from each other.

Harvest beds according to the Meatlider method

  • Having marked out the beds, you need to fasten the cord between the pegs.
  • A prepared substrate is poured onto the soil from above, and then we dig the bed shallowly.
  • After digging, we rake the earth to the center with a rake, and then distribute it over the surface of the bed, but in such a way that 10 cm sides are formed.
  • It is necessary to distribute the earth with a rake so that the height of the beds inside the side is not higher than the ground on the passage.
  • A small slope is made along the length of the bed, which will provide better watering.

A small slope is made along the length of the bed, which will provide better watering. Sow seeds and plant vegetables in these beds in two rows. Tomatoes, zucchini and cucumbers are planted in such a garden in one row, clearly in the center of the garden. Top dressing should be applied every 10 days.

Meatlider potatoes

Growing potatoes using the Meatlider method can even provide you with a double harvest, if the weather conditions in the region permit and the vegetable garden is well lit. The narrow beds used with this method will give you 15% higher yields than a conventional vegetable garden, and they will take up less space.

Optimal bed sizes according to the Meatlider method

1.To plant potatoes in the Meatlider, you need to pick up a flat area that is illuminated by the sun all day.

2. Then you need to dig up the ground well and remove weeds and rhizomes.

3. Then make the markup as described above.

4. After the beds are prepared, you will need to make holes in which we will plant potatoes. The holes are made in two rows, in a checkerboard pattern. The distance between them is 30 cm, and their depth is from 8 to 10 cm.

5.In each hole, 1 tbsp. l. vermicompost. After that, potatoes are placed in the hole and covered with earth.

Having planted potatoes, it is necessary to provide him with some care. Potatoes will need to be watered in a timely manner, applied top dressing, and destroyed weeds. It is very important to make sure that the soil in which the potatoes are planted does not dry out too much, and each bush gets the same amount of moisture and fertilizer. Top dressing is applied the first time when the potatoes have sprouted, and then when its sprouts reach 15 cm, and then - before the potatoes begin to form fruit. According to the Meatlider method, the potatoes do not huddle up, and the narrow beds will provide him with the necessary nutrients.

Greenhouse arrangement according to the Meatlider method

Practical constructions and growing vegetables in the greenhouse according to the Meatlider method have found a lot of fans from among gardeners around the world. You can make a greenhouse according to Mitlider with your own hands, or you can purchase a ready-made one. Such greenhouses are simply assembled and create the necessary conditions for plant growth, protect seedlings from temperature extremes. Its main difference and feature is that the greenhouse has ventilation holes, which are formed using an unusual type of roof. The roof is gable, and on the north side it is made with a steep slope. With this arrangement, the roof slopes do not converge at the top of them, as shown in the video:

Greenhouses according to Meathlider are of several types.

Classic greenhouse

  • A classic greenhouse has a vertical wall arrangement, a gable roof and a special ventilation hole.
  • By standards, it is 12 m long, 6 m wide, and 1.8 m high in lateral part, but dimensions may vary.
  • The main advantage of the greenhouse is its ventilation, which is easy to use.

The large area of the transom makes it possible to circulate warm air, mixing with cool air, and distributing it throughout the greenhouse. You can see how a greenhouse of this type looks like in the video on the Internet and the photo below.

Arched greenhouses made of foil

They are structurally simpler than the classic ones, and it will be easier to make such a greenhouse with your own hands. Unlike standard arched greenhouses, the Meatlider greenhouse has ventilation that allows air to flow even when the door is closed. Such ventilation is provided by a two-level pitched roof.

Greenhouses with two transoms

The third type of greenhouse according to Meatlider is equipped with two transoms, which are located on the southern side of the structure. One transom is made under the slope, the other under the ridge, as in the video:

The main advantage of all greenhouses is precisely the presence of a special ventilation system, which makes it possible for the air to circulate intensively and evenly, and this allows the room to be ventilated and enriched with carbon dioxide. The location of the transom on the south side will avoid hypothermia of the crops that grow in the greenhouse. The sturdy frame of the structure will protect your greenhouse garden from gusts of wind.

The beams and braces located around the perimeter provide the greenhouse with stability even from snowdrifts.

Greenhouse made of wood

You can make a Mitlider greenhouse with your own hands from wood. The wooden structure will prevent condensation from accumulating. The horizontally positioned beams are taller than the person's height, which ensures ease of use. These beams can also be used as supports for cucumbers and other weaving crops. A sufficient greenhouse volume will create optimal conditions and increase plant resistance. The required temperature regime is created using two layers of polyethylene, which are located at a distance of 5 - 7 cm from one another.

The greenhouse is easy to assemble with your own hands, and if necessary, you can move it to another place.

Metal greenhouse

A greenhouse according to Meathlider can be made not only of wood, but also of metal. Before starting construction, you need to find a well-lit place on the site on which a fairly flat surface.

Meatlider has created techniques for growing vegetables both outdoors and in greenhouses. His methods ensure that the space for the growth of crops is optimized, the required amount of moisture and fertilizer for each plant. By applying his methods, you will get good yields.
