On the eve of the new season, planning a garden with a pencil and a notebook in hand is one of the most exciting activities. To succeed in this business, it is worthwhile to systematize your desires and plans, and then compare them with the capabilities of your site.
Start planning by examining the parameters of your site: how many hundred square meters in total, the length of the sides along the perimeter, the location of the house and other buildings, the boundaries of the sites occupied by certain crops last year.
Basic planning rules:
Draw a plan of your garden and divide it into rectangular sectors, orienting them from north to south
Divide the area into sectors, matching their size to your specific vegetable needs
Mark objects on the site: bushes, trees, flower beds
Make the beds across the segments (from west to east), and the rows on them - along (from north to south)
The numbers in the diagram indicate: 1 - tall tomatoes, 2 - potato plot, 3 - medium-sized peppers, 4 - undersized peppers, 5 - eggplants, 6 - undersized tomatoes, 7 - medium-sized tomatoes
The main paths (grayed out) connect the house, the compost heap (K), pass the watering barrels (B) and along the flower garden
As a result, I got an approximate project of my 6 acres (20x30 m). A specific family lives on each plot. So it is more convenient to look after. For example, I always know where to wait for the cruciferous flea beetle and where the Colorado potato beetle is. There is no need to run from corner to corner with a sprayer or watering can, as in the case when, for example, cabbage of different types is scattered throughout the garden or tomatoes are planted far from potatoes. In some articles, the neighborhood of potatoes and tomatoes is not recommended due to the fact that they have the same diseases. If a tomato is not resistant to late blight in an unfavorable summer, it will still get sick, even when it is ten meters from the potato. It is better and more convenient to carry out preventive spraying of each family entirely from their common diseases and pests.
The simplest plan for placing beds on a plot of 5 acres (20x25 m) in compliance with the crop rotation with my parents. Their entire site is divided in half from north to south by a main path. In one year, they plant potatoes to the right of her, and all other vegetables to the left, the next year they change places: on the right, the beds, and on the left, potatoes. They always plant cucumbers on a dung heap, and grow tomatoes, melons and watermelons in the greenhouse.
The numbers indicate: 1 - reservoirs with irrigation water, 2 - greenhouse, 3 - cucumber bed
If the direction from north to south runs along the diagonal of the site, then the rows can be made both along and across
Low-growing tomatoes can be grown in buckets on the terrace
There are many tables, lists, articles on the Internet regarding the compatibility of plants in mixed plantings (neighborhood). From a large number of vegetables collected in different combinations, it dazzles in the eyes, it is impossible to remember everything, and it is not necessary, since in different sources the recommendations are contradictory. At the dawn of my gardening, I myself tried to observe them. I compacted the carrots with radishes, I didn't like it - it was cramped, it was impossible to loosen the rows. I planted peas, beans, beans in the potato field - the potatoes of such neighbors suppress. Last year I alternated rows of carrots and onions. The father saw and said that now neither one nor the other will grow. And so it happened: of course, the bulbs and carrots were tied, but they were small. Perhaps it's not only the compatibility of plants, but also in the planting patterns, agricultural technology, climate, soil properties. In my case, only dill coexists well with all cultures, and I still succeed in beets when I sow them along the edges of carrot beds. And what will grow with you, check for yourself. And be prepared for the fact that it is unlikely that you will be able to create the garden of your dreams in one year.
The main planning principles are the observance of crop rotation and the correct arrangement of rows and plants in them, so that each bush receives the maximum amount of sunlight and heat. Having mastered these basics, you can move on to the nuances: try it yourself and find out the compatibility of neighboring plants.

The planning of a garden and a vegetable garden will help to solve many problems for its competent arrangement and obtaining the required amount of harvest. Inexperienced summer residents and gardeners, having planted their own comfortable garden, complain that there is not the required abundance of fruits and vegetables, which they counted on.
First, you need to understand the history of the site. Study what happened on this earth before? It is possible that there was a flat surface or a forest grew. Or maybe there was a swamp there before? Then the approach to the formation of zones and the laying of communications will be different. And then you need to think over other important principles underlying how to plan the site.
Hello! I ask everyone for help. We bought a plot for a summer cottage - 21 acres, rectangular, the land is good, the plot is flat and well lit, completely empty. We have arranged the outbuildings, but we cannot decide on a garden and a vegetable garden. I want to plant everything and a lot, the family is big, so that everyone has enough. The land is located in Belarus, in the Minsk region. There is a river near the site, and there are often fogs. I would be very grateful to everyone for your advice!
Hello! Sorry, I didn’t know how to add a photo right away)
A couple of explanations for the photo. The house is connected to the sauna by a terrace, opposite is a workshop and a carport. It will also be interesting to hear an experienced opinion on where it is better to put a playground, a swimming pool, a recreation area with a barbecue, flower beds / paths, where it is more convenient to set up a garden with all the variety of fruit trees and bushes. But the garden and household buildings, in the future, greenhouses, a chicken coop, a woodshed, you want to take out to the end of the site and fence off with a fence or green bushes.
Hello Nastassia! Taking into account your wishes, I tried to show in the chart what and where can be placed. At the same time, taking into account the length of the site and the buildings on it.
You are absolutely right that you want to move the territory for economic activity to the periphery of the site and close it with a decorative "living" fence. At the same time, a garden, flower beds with lawns and lawns should be built around the house, and a recreation area and a children's / sports ground should be integrated into them. I showed this option in the sketch. Having an elongated shape, the site is easily divided into several shapes close to a rectangle. We will not zoning it dogmatically, but approximately on the drawing we will lay some functional zones: the entrance, it is the front. Then comes the area of the residential building, which in this case is grouped with a workshop and a carport, this layout forms a small patio. That, on the one hand, is convenient, but on the other, not very much, because the land of the plot, given over to the entrance road, is used irrationally, as much as 19 meters. True, the access road passing through the site will make it possible to drive up to a septic tank and a well, so they can be close to a house and a bathhouse. I consider this moment to be successful.
The area of the residential building is followed by an open garden space and a recreational area with water, barbecue, awning, etc. The main purpose walkway that runs through the garden bends around it, leaving the resting space closed and cozy.
All buildings on the site are connected by a long zigzag pedestrian alley. And in conclusion, I would like to note that the proposed sketch should be flexible and open to changes, and I hope that it will help you in the improvement. Good luck!

A plot of 6 acres is a standard allotment owned by most of the owners of country estates. To make your garden plot of a small area look more spacious and not "crush" with its green walls, use the advice of professionals. The principles of landscape design will help not only decorate, but also visually expand the boundaries.
Color. Everyone has known for a long time that dark decreases, light - on the contrary, increases. But how does it work in the country, if the grass is green anyway. Very simple! Light (at least from the inside) fence, white or gray stones for arranging paths, white or pastel walls of a house and other buildings: voila, your summer cottage looks much more spacious. This also applies to plants: light varieties of flowering instead of dark, shrubs with light green leaves, instead of rich emerald.
Perspective. Remember the view of the alley going into the distance - it seems that the trees at the end have become very small and seem to have grown together with each other. This creates the effect of an infinitely long road. If you use the principles of perspective on a summer cottage of 6 acres, you can repeat the effect. Choose the point from which you look at your garden most often and proceed:
In the photo, landscape decoration with light stones
Reflective surface. If we use mirrors in interior design, then in nature water plays this role: even a small body of water can visually increase your 600 sq. m. Keep in mind that the best reflective ability has a deep darkened pond, the worst - a shallow, well-lit pond.
Horizontal plane. Imagine 2 territories: on one there is short grass, on the other there are densely centuries-old spruces - which one will look more spacious? Flat surfaces occupying a large area (preferably in the center), for example, a lawn with a lawn, a pool, a paved area will make the summer cottage much lighter.
Curved paths. We already mentioned this in the "Planning" section: winding and diagonal paths winding around flower beds, beds, functional zones, seem long and endless, unlike straight ones - therefore 6 acres look at least 10.
Verticals. Fortunately, the sky is the ceiling in the country house, so there is no need to worry about the height of the ceilings. This means that you can actively use verticals! For example, vertical flower beds or beds help to save space on the ground and use it more rationally.
Landscaping, as well as the layout of 6 acres, which will be done independently, provides for compliance with the law, namely, the norms for the location of all objects on the site (SNiP of 07/02/1989). Also, compliance with fire safety requirements (SNiP dated 01/02/1985) belongs to the legislative norms. To date, the following norms are enshrined:
Still have questions? Ask, do not hesitateAsk a question
To avoid unpleasant situations, namely complaints from neighbors, as well as inspection bodies, it is imperative to comply with the approved standards.
Consider the features of creating comfort on this site, and they consist in the fact that it is worthwhile to have a correct project of such a territory in advance. You should draw all buildings and landings on a sheet of paper in such a way as if you see them from above. The plan should indicate the main building, barbecue area, pool, gazebo, place for a hammock, playground, beds, flower beds, paths and garden alleys. You should also provide the drawing with the cardinal points - this is important in order to understand in detail the territorial lighting. There are certain rules when designing, and the home facade must necessarily face south - so near the house it will turn out to achieve maximum sunlight during the day. Your project plan should correspond to the logic of the buildings that will be on the site. It is worth analyzing where your water sources are, and the places of the garden and garden will depend on this. You should not plan a playground for children in the neighborhood, otherwise the kids will mess around in the mud.
Do not break gazebos, a place under a barbecue near a garage or a fence. A complete rest will not work near exhaust gases, and so that the garden on 15 acres does not get wet, but gives a rich harvest, you should not give it a place in the melt and rainwater runoff. You can reshape the relief, make an artificial soil bedding. The proportions should be maintained as follows - 1/10 of the house area, 15% of the rest of the buildings, almost the entire remaining territory (up to 70%) is a vegetable garden and a garden, and the remaining 5% are lawns and a recreation area. If you need more places to relax, you can donate a little garden or, for example, a sauna. It is important to start filling the site from the house, because it should be easy to get from it to any objects in the suburban areas.
There is already more space here. Therefore, it is possible to make more spacious areas or add other elements of a country holiday.
It is not recommended to place the house exactly in the center on a rectangular area. This will steal a lot of space. Therefore, it is better to place it closer to one of the edges.
The eastern part of the site is the lightest. Therefore, it is recommended to locate a vegetable garden in this area. The area of the garden can be the same as for 6 acres. After all, it accommodates the minimum of everything necessary to please the household with fresh vegetables.
The garden is best located in the southeast. Fruit trees should not be more than 20, but planting less than 15 is not recommended.
On a rectangular suburban area, experts advise breaking the beds and flower beds of the correct geometric shape. And the paths should be made in the form of straight lines.
What else should you plan on the site? On the side of the road, it is supposed to make a garage or a covered parking lot. The relaxation area allows you to place a small bath. The pool will fit in logically behind the house. The resting place can also be improved by placing a gazebo or terrace there, decorating it with flower beds on all sides.
